Webinar: Media Literacy – Detecting Disinformation in the Classroom

Fake or misleading news can crucially affect opinions on specific topics. We can currently observe this using the example of the COVID-19 pandemic. But how to detect disinformation – especially if it targets or is spread among school students? We will show you the basic concepts of information manipulation. And how to fight back against it.

You are
A teacher (English, History, Politics) or journalist in Germany reporting about media literacy efforts / conducting newspaper workshops at schools / with a general interest in the topic.

You have
Good listening comprehension skills in English.

What you can expect

Duration: 4 hours

2.00 - 6.00 p.m.

  • Understanding Information Manipulation – defining the problem
  • Who are the actors most responsible for spreading false or misleading information – especially among younger people?
  • Methods used to spread false or misleading information
  • How information is distributed on traditional or social media
  • Tools, Tactics, and Tricks used to Detect and Respond to Disinformation in the Classroom
  • The webinar (especially the lecturer's input) will be recorded and processed into a video.

You need

  • PC or laptop with webcam and microphone (Windows or Mac)
  • Headset (not required, but recommended)
  • You will receive a link with all necessary instructions so that you can easily attend the webinar.

What you can do after the webinar
You will know the basic strategies to identify and fight back against manipulated information in general and especially in the classroom.

A certificate confirms your participation.
